The BMW 323i was a variant of the E30 3 Series that was introduced for the 1983 model year. The 323i was powered by BMW's M20B23 engine, which was a fuel injected 2.3L inline six unit. This engine was initially fitted with Bosch's L-Jetronic and generated 137hp, but for 1985, the engine was upgraded with LE-Jetronic fuel injection and a new camshaft, increasing power to 148hp. These engines were paired to both manual and automatic transmission options, which sent drive to the rear wheels. The E30 323i was never sold in North America, and was built until 1985, although the 323i would appear again as part of the E36 BMW 3 Series.
